Algal growth in our products does not occur. Engineered Fluids products are "readily biodegradable", which means that, with the right conditions of moisture, heat, light and bacteria that are available in standard laboratory tests, bacteria can use our coolants as a source of carbon. For example, in standard laboratory test called OECD 301b, ElectroCool EC-110 is 94% biodegraded in 28 days. This doesn't mean, however, that if you spill a liter of the product onto the ground, 94% will be gone naturally in a month. The laboratory biodegradation tests are very specific in the conditions that they're run in; these conditions are rarely found outside the laboratory.
We have many customers who use different types of closed loop circulation systems in their application. They do not need to add "top up" fluid to their systems, even after ears of use. Be sure to check our Material Compatibility Guide to make sure that the system materials you're using are all compatible with our coolants!
