All of our Dielectric Coolants have an extremely high dielectric strength, due to their molecular structure and the specialized processing used in their formulation.
The dielectric strength of ElectroCool Dielectric Coolants is regularly tested to the ASTM-D1816 standard to greater than 60,000 volts (60 kV) over an electrode gap distance of 2 mm. ElectroCool Dielectric Coolants meet all electrical requirements for dielectric fluids used in power transformers operating at 250,000 volts (1,2, and 3 Phase).
Dielectric strength is defined as the minimum applied electric field (i.e., the applied voltage divided by electrode separation distance) that results in a materials' breakdown. Breakdown is the point at which the electric field frees the bound electrons and the material will conduct electricity. The dielectric strength ad & breakdown voltage for non-conducting fluids is measured using the ASTM-D1816 standard (https://www.astm.org/Standards/D1816.htm).
